Five quiet reasons a small box is changing the way kitchens pack a meal

A category that no one was paying attention to has been rearranging shelves, lunch bags and weekend plans, one folded down container at a time.

In this article

Five small reasons, in a single scroll.

Sage green silicone container filled with a fresh tabbouleh style salad on a bright office desk beside a laptop and notebook.

Reason 01

The morning routine has been quietly redesigned.

The lunch drawer used to be a graveyard of mismatched plastic tubs. Now two or three soft, foldable boxes do the same work, and the shelf finally belongs to plates again.

Reason 02

The same little box, two very different days.

Four moments of carrying silicone boxes through everyday life in tote bags, backpacks and handbags.

Office lunch

Slipped into a tote in the morning, opened at the desk by one.

Weekend travel

Rides along for the drive without spilling across the back seat.

A closer look

What you are actually looking at

Lid

Click. Locked in. Same energy as zipping up your favourite jacket on a cold morning.

Reason 03

Designed to disappear when you do not need it.

When the box is empty, it folds down to roughly the thickness of its own lid. The shelf you used to lose to storage is suddenly back in your life.

Side by side view of a blue silicone container expanded and then collapsed flat to roughly three centimetres.

A small comparison

Old shelf, new shelf.

Two cabinet shelves filled with rigid plastic containers, some full of food and some empty.

Traditional containers

Always the same size, even when empty.

Rigid tubs take up the same shelf room whether they are full of last night's dal or completely empty.

Two neat stacks of blue collapsed silicone boxes sitting inside a cream kitchen cabinet beside plates and grain jars.

Collapsible silicone

Shrinks back when the meal is over.

Empty boxes fold flat and stack neatly, so the cabinet starts feeling lived in again rather than overrun.

Reason 04

The small details that earn a spot on the shelf.

Microwave and dishwasher safe

Warm it up, wash it up, no extra step in between.

Leak resistant lid

A silicone gasket and four clip closure that actually holds.

A day with it

One product, four ordinary moments.

Morning

Last night's curry, today's lunch.

Afternoon

A sage green Slursh collapsible box filled with a fresh chopped salad resting on a wooden kitchen table beside brass jars.

A real meal at the desk, not a sad sandwich.

Evening

An open fridge shelf with two stacked blue Slursh collapsible boxes alongside glass jars of produce and fresh greens.

Leftovers folded into the fridge instead of bowls.

Weekend

A stack of three blue Slursh collapsible boxes on a woven rug beside a backpack, headphones and a brass plate of snacks, ready for a weekend trip.

Snacks ride along for the drive.

Reason 05

A category that is suddenly everywhere, and one name keeps coming up.

Walk through any kitchen aisle this year and collapsible silicone has gone from a niche curiosity to a default option. Several brands now ship a version, and most of the conversations we have heard end up returning to the same one. Slursh sits in that group.

We are not naming it because it is the only good option. We are naming it because it is the one people in our circle kept buying a second pack of, which is usually the most honest review a product can earn.

The pack in this story

The Slursh Collapsible Silicone Box.

Slursh collapsible silicone box pack of three in soft blue beside its product packaging.

The set we photographed for this article is a pack of three 700 ml boxes in a soft, almost slate blue. They collapse down to a couple of centimetres when empty, click shut with a silicone gasket that takes the edge off leaks, and stay leak resistant enough for a normal commute. Reusable rather than disposable, light enough to travel, and quiet enough in design that they do not fight the rest of your kitchen for attention.
